AFTER A CAREER OF 30 PGA TOUR WINS, INCLUDING TWO MAJORS, AND PLAYING WITH SOME OF THE GREATEST TO EVER PLAY THE GAME LIKE JACK NICKLAUS, ARNOLD PALMER, GARY PLAYER AND GREG NORMAN, JOHNNY MILLER HAS TURNED HIS FOCUS TO GOLF COURSE DESIGN.

ABOUT JOHNNY MILLER GOLF COURSE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

Since 1980, Johnny Miller has brought the same intensity and competitive fire he used to win his Major PGA championships to golf course design. And the result has been a resounding success. But this is no mere hobby for Mr. Miller. He is involved in every facet of construction and is on-site throughout the life of the project.

Week after week, Johnny walks the world’s most prestigious courses, and if anyone knows what makes a course
great, he does. And the proof is 40+ exquisite Johnny Miller-designed golf courses worldwide.

JOHNNY MILLER PROFILE

After winning the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in 1964, there were high hopes from the kid from San Francisco. And after a standout career at Brigham Young University, he bursted on the PGA golf scene in 1969, winning two tournaments in consecutive years. But then came the 1973 U.S. Open at which he shot what's arguably the best final round in championship history – shooting an incredible 63, the lowest score ever recorded by a winner of that prestigious event. Never satisfied, he followed that history-making win with 9 PGA Tour wins the following year – earning Player of the Year honors as well topping the PGA money winning list. In 1976, Johnny would add another Major Championship – the British Open – to his resume, and after retiring from competitive golf he was the first player to be elected to the PGA Tour Hall of Fame and World Golf Hall of Fame. Johnny is remembered as one of the greatest ball strikers the game has ever seen. These days, he spends his time as the Lead Golf Analyst for NBC Sports, designing courses and developments, and fly fishing when time allows. Johnny's competitive fire still burns brightly and it can be witnessed in his truly inspired golf course designs.

JOHNNY MILLER CAREER OVERVIEW

Johnny earned 25 PGA tour wins and over 30 worldwide. And in 1973, he shot a final round of 63 to win the U.S. Open, considered to be the finest final round in a major championship, beating Arnold Palmer. And in 1976, Johnny won the British Open at Royal Birkdale. Aside from his many accomplishments on the golf course, Johnny has been nominated 3 times for an Emmy for his work on NBC as a golf analyst.

JOHNNY MILLER GOLF COURSE DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIPS

CALLAWAY GOLF

Since 1991, Johnny has been associated with Callaway Golf and considers his relationship with the company as “one of the best decisions I’ve ever made off the course.”

NBC

Whether it’s the U.S. Open, Women’s Open, Senior Open, Players Championship, Ryder Cup or President’s Cup, Johnny has always been opinionated, candid, and calls it like he sees it. Maybe that’s why NBC has gone from worst to first in the ratings.

GOLF DIGEST

Every month, golfers from around the world look to Johnny's article on tips to a better golf game.

JOHNNY MILLER GOLF COURSE DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

ANALYSIS AND PLANNING

Before one hole is designed, before one path is carved out, before one stake is driven into the ground, our team of experts walk the property with you to get a feel for the topography, vegetation, climate, and local surroundings. Then, and only then, will the actual process of designing of the course commence.

CONCEPT PLAN

Any company can build a golf course, but at Johnny Miller Design, we are very passionate about how a course fits into a community. How it meshes with the neighboring structures. Ensuring that the "sense of arrival" is exactly what the developer had in mind. Of course, this does not happen by accident. We work hand and hand with our team of engineers, landscape architects, and project manager to make your dream reality.

COURSE ROUTING

Understanding the vision of the developer and the use of the golf course strongly influences our use of the land and determining the routing of the golf course. We work closely with the developer so that we create the best routing that will integrate the amenities, homes, and natural surrounding into the golf course itself.

Once course routing is complete, we turn our drawings into 3D images utilizing the latest CAD software, Riverstone. This gives you an idea of the contours of the tee boxes, fairways and greens, as well as lakes, rivers and other hazards. The 3D image is then composited with a photograph of the site allowing you to see how the course will lay into the land. In addition, we have our certified engineers create the proper drainage systems for the golf course so that it will be ready to play shortly after adverse weather.

LANDSCAPE AND COURSE FINISHING

Even if the playability of a course is brilliant, without beautiful landscaping to compliment the design, the player's experience will be less than average. Rivers, water features, trees, and flowers, are just a few things that add the "wow factor" to a course. In fact, the landscaping on your course will be so beautiful, golfer's will have a hard time keeping their head down.

COURSE IDENTITY AND MARKETING

Your course is finished, but we’re not done yet. Your course now needs its identity. From the logo to the web site, to yardage books and course signage, we handle it all. We believe that every touch point, no matter how large or small, should have the same attention to detail as the course itself.

GRAND OPENING

Imagine having Johnny Miller at the grand opening of your course. That's right, the day your course opens for play, Johnny will hold a clinic on golf, every group will be able to play at least one hole with him, and he will hand out the prizes at the awards dinner and will be available to answer questions from the audience. Now that's what we call a grand opening.
